Oya is designed exclusively for people who wish to send money to Nigeria.

That means we’ve been able to cut out unnecessary steps like having to pick a country or asking you for information that isn’t relevant for sending money to Nigeria to make your experience simpler and faster.

Once your payment is accepted, the money will appear in your recipient’s account instantly.

Your first two transfers will be fee free.

After this we charge a fixed fee of £1.99 per transfer irrespective of the amount you send.

Signing up to Oya is simple, free and takes less than 5 minutes.

You will need to download the Oya app and complete the registration process.

Setting up a transfer is easy and takes a few simple steps.

Go to the ‘Send money’ tab in the Oya app. If you are sending to a new recipient, start by selecting the amount you want to send, enter your recipient’s details and pay securely using your debit card. Your recipient’s details will be stored securely in the app.

Sending to an existing recipient is even easier. Choose who you want to send money to from your existing list of recipients, confirm the amount and pay using your debit card.

The money will appear in your recipient’s account instantly.

You can send money with Oya to a US Dollar (USD) domiciliary account at Wema Bank.

We are currently expanding the Oya service to offer cash collection through any Wema Bank branch nationwide. This service will be available soon.

During the registration process, we will ask you to provide standard personal details (your name, date of birth and address) and contact information (you mobile number and email address). Protecting your personal data is very important to us, and it is always kept secure.
No - we will not carry out any credit checks on you when opening your Oya account as we do not provide a credit service.
Once you start using the Oya service we may ask you to verify your identity in order to help us keep your money safe. We take two simple steps using the Oya app to protect you against financial crime and ensure that it is really you who is making the transfers. This should only take a minute or two and you will only need to do this once. Here is what you will need:
  • Your UK Passport, Full Driving Licence or Resident's Permit to hand
  • To take a selfie using your phone
Please note that we do not accept Provisional Driving Licences as a form of ID. If your Proof of Identity document is rejected, please check the following:
  • All of the details are clearly visible and the picture is not blurry
  • The picture is not in black and white
  • The document has not expired
  • The information on your document matches the details on your Oya account.

Once your transfer is completed, the status of your transfer will change to "Transfer completed" in your transfer history confirming that the money has reached your recipient's bank. If you have any questions about the completion of your transfer, please contact our Customer Support team.
When you see "Transfer completed" this means that we have successfully delivered your transfer to your recipient's bank. Their bank will then process the transfer and pay it into your recipient's account. For most transfers this usually happens within a few minutes, however, in some cases may take longer depending on your recipient's bank. If the money is still not in the recipient's account after 2 working days, please get in contact with our Customer Service team, who will be more than happy to help you.
As soon as you confirm the transfer in the Oya app, money from our local bank partner in Nigeria is sent instantly to your recipient's bank. It is usually delivered to your recipient's account within 15 minutes but may take longer depending on your recipient's bank.
The minimum transfer amount is £10 and the maximum per transfer is £6,000. In order to protect your account, we have also placed limits on the number of transfers that can be made over a period of time:
  • A maximum of 3 transfers in a rolling 24-hour period
  • A maximum 5 transfers in a rolling 7-day period
  • A maximum 18 transfers in a rolling 30-day period
Once you have reached a transfer limit, we will notify you in the app. There may also be limits depending on your recipient's bank. Please check with the bank before sending money to see if there are any maximum amounts.
Your Transfer ID is a unique reference code allocated to each transfer that you make, to help you keep track of this. You will need your Transfer ID if you contact our Customer Support team with any questions about your transfer. You can find the Transfer ID in your transfer history in the Oya app.
You can see all your previous transfers in the app by going to the "History" tab at the bottom of your screen.
A transfer may not be processed for a number of reasons. For example, your payment card may have been declined, your recipient's details may have been incorrect or there could have been an issue with processing the transfer at your recipient's bank. If you have any questions about your transfer, please contact our Customer Support team.
A card payment can be declined for a number of reasons. If your card was declined, the best thing to do is to contact your card provider as they will be able to give you more information.
We accept all UK MasterCard and Visa debit cards. Please make sure that you are using your own card, so that the name on the card matches the name on your Oya account. We don't currently accept cash, prepaid cards, credit cards or any American Express cards.

You can update your email address at any time. In the app, go to the 'Account' tab at the bottom of your screen and tap on 'Personal Details'. The security of your account is of the upmost importance to us, so if you need to make any changes to your mobile number, name or address please contact our Customer Support team who can help with this.
In the app, go to the 'Send money' tab where you will see a list of your recipients. Tap the 'Edit' button next to the recipient you want to update. Once you've made the update make sure that you tap the 'SAVE' button.
Go to the 'Send money' tab in the app where you will see a list of your recipients. Tap the 'Edit' button next to the recipient you want to delete then tap the 'DELETE' button. Your recipient's details will be permanently deleted from the app.
You can change your passcode at any time in the app. Tap the 'My Account' icon in the navigation bar, go to 'Settings' and 'Change Passcode' where you will be asked to enter a new passcode. We will then send a verification code to the email address registered to your account. You need to enter that code in the app and your passcode will be updated
If you have forgotten your passcode when logging in, click on the 'Forgotten passcode' link on the 'Enter your passcode' page. You will be asked to enter a new passcode. We will then send a verification code to the email address registered to your account. You need to enter that code in the app and your passcode will be updated. You can set up Biometric ID for easy access to the app. Once you have done this you will no longer be asked for your Passcode to access the app. You can set up Biometric ID by going to 'My Account' then 'Settings'.
Your account may have been blocked for a number of reasons. This could include suspicious activity having been detected on your account of if you have signed up for multiple accounts. If your account has been blocked please contact our Customer Support team.
You can only have one Oya account per person. Please be careful, as signing up for multiple accounts may result in all your accounts being deactivated.
For regulatory reasons, we can only permanently close accounts which haven't been used in the past 5 years. However, we can always deactivate an account for you. If you wish to do so, please contact our Customer Support team.
